CBSE Class X Second Board Exam 2026: LOC Submission Guidelines & Important Dates

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an important circular dated 17 March 2026 regarding the submission of List of Candidates (LOC) for the Class X Second Board Examinations 2026 for the academic session 2025–26.

As per the recommendations of NEP 2020, CBSE has introduced the Two Board Examination Policy, allowing students to improve their performance. Under this system, Class X students can appear in the Second Board Examination (May 2026) to improve their scores in up to three subjects.

Key Highlights of the Circular

  • The Second Board Examination is being conducted for the first time for Class X students.
  • Students who wish to improve their performance can appear in a maximum of three subjects.
  • Schools are required to submit the List of Candidates (LOC) for all interested students.
  • CBSE aims to collect accurate student data in advance for smooth exam planning and execution.

LOC Submission Process

CBSE has instructed schools to carefully follow the guidelines and ensure timely submission of LOC. The submission will help CBSE identify:

  • Number of students appearing
  • Subjects chosen for improvement
  • Proper planning for examination centres and logistics

Principals are advised to go through the circular thoroughly and take necessary action without delay.

Conditions to Appear for CBSE Class X Second Board Examination 2026

CBSE has clearly outlined the eligibility criteria for students who wish to appear in the Second Board Examination. Students must carefully check the following conditions:

  • It is mandatory for all students to appear in the first Board Examination.
  • Only passed and eligible students can appear to improve performance in up to three subjects (Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages).
  • Students who did not appear in three or more subjects in the first examination are not eligible for the second examination. They can appear only in the main exam next year.
  • Students placed in the Compartment category in the first exam can appear in the second examination under the same category.
  • No new names will be added to the LOC for the second examination.
  • Subject change is not allowed, except as per CBSE policy (in specific cases like Mathematics).
  • No correction in student data from the first exam will be permitted.
  • Students registered under CWSN category in the first exam will continue to receive facilities, but no new CWSN candidates can be added.

Eligible for Second Board Examination

  • Have appeared in at least 3 subjects in the first exam
  • Have passed Class X (for improvement category)
  • Are placed in the compartment category
  • Passed using the 6th subject replacement rule
  • Are under UFM Category 1 (if eligible)
  • We're in the compartment category in 2025 exams
  • Want improvement in up to 3 subjects (Science, Maths, Social Science, Languages)
  • Are appearing for the first/third chance compartment
  • Want compartment and improvement together
  • Passed through subject replacement and want improvement
  • Are sports students approved by the Board
